Highway 40 West (German: Reise in Amerika)By Hartmut BitomskyBig Sky Films 1980-81 180 minutes Inspired by George R. Stewart's 1953 book U.S. 40, German filmmaker Hartmut Bitomsky created a four-part television documentary about the highway. The film begins its journey in Atlantic City and heads west to San Francisco. This three-hour film is shown periodically on German television. Bitomsky's journey was repeated when two other German filmmakers - Florian Schewe and Vojtech Pokorny - retraced the journey in their 2008 film Amiland. For more information:
