 With
490 miles of roadway, Colorado boasts more Route
40 roadway than any other state. In addition,
it also possesses 470 miles of Route 40's split
alignment - Route 40N
& Route 40S. That makes for 960 miles
of highway!
Check back later! The Colorado
section of the Scrapbook is still being built.

Driving west from Denver, this is
the first location in which the majestic Rocky Mountains
can be seen. Over the years, countless photographs
have been taken near this spot. To the right is
the Genesee Game Reserve. George Stewart shot his
Two Species photograph just beyond the stand
of trees on the right. |

Route 40 crosses the Continental
Divide three times. The first crossing is at Berthoud
Pass and is the most significant of the three crossings.
The second is Muddy Pass, a slight rise in elevation.
If you didn't know it was a mountain pass, you'd
think it was nothing more than a gentle rolling
hill. |
