Golden RoosterNugget Casino1100 Nugget Avenue Sparks, NV 89431 While you're at the Nugget, be sure to visit the hotel lobby. There you will find the famous Golden Rooster on display. In 1958, casino owner Dick Graves commissioned a solid gold rooster to be placed on display. Since possession of more that 50 ounces of gold was illegal at that time, Graves received permission to build the rooster from the U.S. Mint. Undeterred, vigilant federal officials twice confiscated the statue claiming it was illegal for the casino to have it. After a two year legal battle, a jury sided with the casino and the bird was returned.
