My Grandfather Wayne W. Scull built and operated this motel, Wayne's Motel, for a number of years. In the field behind the motel, he also built two houses and a garage. One house was for his parents, Alfred Scull and Lillian Hackett Scull, and one house for himself and my Grandmother, Margaret Price Scull. In the corner of the L-shaped motel was the laundry, never closed, and stacked on the shelves were dozens of cigar boxes (Pop-Pop was a cigar smoking, fedora-wearing, horse race fan) filled with change...nickels, dimes, quarters. When I visited as a young boy, he would send me to the laundry to get a nickel for the soda machine. Seemed to me, at the time, like a treasure hoard.
