Merritt IerleyMerritt Ierley is the author of Traveling the National Road (1990, Overlook Press). In addition to that National Road-related work, Ierley also authored Wonderful Contrivances, The Comforts of Home: The American house and the evolution of Modern Convenience, Open House: A guided tour of the American Home, With Charity for All: Welfare and Society, ancient times to the present. A former journalist, and at one time an editor at the Virginia Gazette, he is an alumnus of the College of William and Mary. He lives in Sussex, New Jersey.
