Ebenezer Zane

1747-1811

Ebenezer Zane was born in 1747 in Virginia (now West Virginia). At the age of 22, he headed west and founded a settlement on the Ohio River called Fort Henry (now known as Wheeling).

In 1796, Zane struck a deal with the U.S. Congress that gave him choice tracts of land in Ohio in exchange for blazing a trail from Fort Henry to Maysville, Kentucky.

Ebenezer Zane died in 1811.
