Bob Dole

1923-

601 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
10th Floor
Washington, DC 20004-3606

Bob Dole was born on July 22, 1923, in Russell, Kansas. He is a noted politician and ran unsuccessfully for the Presidency of the United States.

Growing up in Russell, Dole worked in his father's creamery, at the local drug store and other odd jobs. After graduating from Russell High School, Dole studied at the University of Kansas in Kansas. During WWII, he enlisted in the Army and saw combat in Italy. As a result of a prolonged battle, he suffered permanent paralysis of his right arm.

When he returned to the states, he continued his studies at KU, the University of Arizona and Washburn University in Topeka. He then entered politics serving as a state legislator, the Russell County Attorney, a Representative in the U.S. House and also in the U.S. Senate (where he served between 1969-1996). While in the Senate he also served as the Majority Leader. He was also the Republican candidate for the U.S. Vice President (1976) and U.S. President (1996).

Bob Dole has been married twice. He first married Phyllis Holden in 1948 (they were divorced in 1972). Dole later married Elizabeth Hanford in 1975; Elizabeth Dole has served as the Secretary of Transportation, Secretary of Labor, head of the American Red Cross and as a U.S. Senator from North Carolina.

Dole also enjoyed a brief stint as a product pitch man, selling products such as Pepsi (with Britney Spears), Visa credit cards and, of course, Viagra.
